The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County are proud to celebrate the release of Kulap Vilaysack’s documentary, Origin Story. In her directorial debut, filmmaker/showrunner/writer Kulap Vilaysack explores her tangled family tree to find out who she is. Origin Story is a feature-length, international quest with stops in Los Angeles, Minnesota, and Laos to meet the biological father she never knew. On the road, unforeseen revelations strike as hilarious or heartbreaking, rarely in between.

This evening guests will enjoy a reception where they will have the chance to see rare museum collections that have their own unique origin stories. The film screening will follow the reception and conclude with a conversation and audience Q&A with Kulap Vilaysack and moderated by NHMLAC’s Vice President of Education and Programs, Su Oh.

Schedule:

  • 6 pm: Reception and Collections on Display
  • 7 pm: Film Screening
  • 8:45 pm: Conversation and Audience Q&A
  • 9:30 pm: Program Concludes
