Accessibility

We aim to make NHM an exciting, educational, and enjoyable experience for everyone. If you have any questions about your visit and the services we offer, contact our Call Center at 213.763.3466 or info@nhm.org.

Wheelchair Access

All exhibits are accessible for wheelchairs and strollers, with the exception of strollers inside the Butterfly and Spider Pavilion. Wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and can be checked out by leaving a driver's license or other form of valid identification. Inquire with our Guest Relations staff once you arrive.

Accessible Parking

Limited accessible parking is available in NHM car park.

Accessible Restrooms and Family Lounge

Wheelchair accessible and all-gender restrooms are available throughout the museum once the inside of the museum is open. We have Family Care Lounges available for guests on Level 1 near the Welcome Center and on Level 2 in the Bird Hall. Please inquire with our Guest Relations staff for access.

Service Animals

Service animals, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, on a leash and under the owner’s control, are welcome at the Museum. If the dog is barking excessively or not housebroken, the handler may be asked to remove the dog from the museum.

Sensory Sensitivity

For those who may experience sensory sensitivity, we provide free kits, including noise cancelling headphones, a fossil stress ball, a sensory guide, and fidget cube. Kits are available to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis and can be checked out by leaving a driver's license or other form of valid identification. Inquire with our Guest Relations staff once you arrive.

Additionally, you can plan your trip by using these resources:

Visual Checklist
Social Narrative
Sensory Guide

NHM experiences lower-sensory days with generally fewer visitors and quieter hours that vary from time of day and time of year. For more information, please contact our Call Center at 213.763.3466 or info@nhm.org.

Deaf or Hard of Hearing

All exhibits (with the exception of the Gem and Mineral Hall and Bird Hall) contain videos with open captioning. American Sign Language interpretation or Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) services are provided at no fee for all theater programs, public programs, lectures, and tours. To request ASL interpretation or CART services, please contact info@nhm.org at least two weeks in advance of your visit.

Free Access to the Museum

As your Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County we celebrate the diversity of our audiences and are committed to doing so with equity, accessibility, and inclusion in mind. We aim to serve our community and offer a variety of programs to see the Museum for free. Learn more about our programs.
