Uncensored: Restoring one of L.A.’s most Controversial Murals with Barbara Carrasco

Watch the restoration of L.A. History: A Mexican Perspective.

Head and shoulders portrait of Barbara Carrasco in front of colorful mural

Watch the restoration of one of L.A.'s most controversial murals. Barbara Carrasco's 80 foot L.A. History: A Mexican Perspective, commissioned in 1981, was never completed as the artist was told to cease and desist for its all too accurate depiction of L.A.'s past. The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles's Conservation team and art restoration experts used novel techniques and science to restore this incredible part of Los Angeles public art, while still conserving its turbulent history. Carrasco's mural has found a home in the new NHM Commons' Judith Perlstein Welcome Center in the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.
