Step back into the 80s, a decade where sci-fi blockbusters and quirky cult classics tackled real scientific marvels, Cold War fears, and predictions for the future. Join us for a special film screening featuring expert-led discussions, lively pre-screening receptions, and a fun look at what 80s sci-fi got both right and hilariously wrong.

Featuring guests Dr. Clifford V. Johnson, theoretical physicist and professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara and science consultant on Avengers: Endgame and Star Trek: Discovery, Barbra Dillon, co-founder and editor-in-chief of Fanbase Press, and Lee Supercinski, producer for Futurama.
Young Ben Crandall (Ethan Hawke) spends his free time watching sci-fi films, playing video games and reading comic books. After Ben shares a vivid dream about technology, his science-loving friend Wolfgang Muller (River Phoenix) manages to create a working spacecraft. Joined by their buddy Darren Woods (Jason Presson), the boys take off into outer space and encounter some very odd extraterrestrial life. The film debuts Hawke and Phoenix. Directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins, Innerspace).

Dr. Clifford V. Johnson is a theoretical physicist and professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara and science consultant on Avengers: Endgame and Star Trek: Discovery.
Barbra Dillon is the co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of Fanbase Press, a GLAAD Media Award-winning and Eisner and Harvey Awards-nominated publishing company and media outlet that seeks to produce new and distinctive works that give voice to the themes, ideals, and people that make “geekdom” so exceptional. She also serves as a Board Member for the Graphic Medicine International Collective, Comics Library Commons, and The Latinx Comic Arts Festival, as well as an Advisory Board Member of the Santa Monica Comics Company.
Lee Supercinski is a producer for Futurama, the Emmy Award-winning animated series created by Matt Groening. In addition to Futurama, Lee produced Groening’s series Disenchantment for Netflix.His other credits include How Murray Saved Christmas (NBC), The Ant Bully (Warner Bros. Pictures, Inc.), and Mr. Show with Bob & David (HBO).
Mike Cimicata aka mikecmusic believes the key to understanding music lies in learning as much as possible about how it is made.
