Join us for the opening weekend of our newest exhibition, 100 Carats: Icons of the Gem World, an extraordinary display of incredible gems from around the world in NHM’s Gem and Mineral Hall Vault. Be among the first to view the centerpiece jewel, the Jonker I Diamond, which has not been on public view for decades, as well as other iconic and rarely seen gemstones. Learn how gems can reveal the history of our planet, see up close how a mineral is transformed into a gem, enjoy hands-on activities, and more!

Cabbing Demonstration Station 
Have you ever wondered how gems are cut and shaped for things like jewelry? Enjoy a close up look at the most popular form of gem cutting! Watch how a mineral can be transformed simply by how it’s cut.

A Closer Look at Mineral Collections 
View some of the Museum’s mineral collections to learn more about their unique properties and how they reveal the scientific story of the history of our planet.
