Christine Wilkinson

Assistant Curator, Community Science

Christine Wilkinson is the Assistant Curator of Community Science and will be directing the Community Science department. Christine is a carnivore ecologist, human-wildlife interactions specialist, and environmental justice advocate who received her PhD in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management from UC Berkeley. Her research focuses on bridging animal behavior, conservation science, and participatory approaches to understand the societal and ecological drivers of human relationships with the natural world. Along with her research, Christine prioritizes mentorship of systemically minoritized early career conservationists and researchers, such as by – for example- co-founding Black Mammalogists Week. She also deeply enjoys multimedia outreach and science communication (i.e., film, TV, podcasts, presentations, exhibit design, etc.). Christine has a special affinity for misunderstood animals and is completing a National Geographic children’s book designed to educate and inspire the next generation to better coexist with vilified species.
