LA Nature Quest builds on four successful years of the LA BioBlitz Challenge, expanding our mission to protect the wildlife of Los Angeles. Join the quest to photograph animals, insects, and plants in your neighborhood and help scientists gather valuable information about biodiversity across the city.

LA Nature Quest is an exciting collaboration between the Los Angeles Public Library’s Neighborhood Science Initiative, LA Sanitation & Environment’s Biodiversity Program, Los Angeles Recreation and Parks, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.

Get Started

  • Download the iNaturalist app from Google Play or the App Store and create an account.
  • Get outside! Observe the wildlife around you. Check the indicator and invasive species cards and challenge yourself to observe three or more of these species in the wild. Explore observation cold spots near you and log observations in these areas to help researchers understand which species live there.
  • Upload your observations to the LA Nature Quest 2025 project.

Learn more from the L.A. Public Library and sign up for a free intro to iNaturalist: Get Ready for Nature Quest, on Tuesday, September 23, from 6 to 7 pm.

On October 4 from 9 am to 12 noon, the Adventure Begins at Griffith Park. Sign up here.
