Antulio Reyes, owner of Guatemalteca Bakery & Restaurant, comes from a long line of bakers–you could say that baking is in his DNA. His father, grandfather, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins run bakeries in the U.S. and his home country of Guatemala. As a young boy, he worked on making the perfect round balls of dough for pirujos (also known as pan Frances, which means "french bread"), a staple in Guatemalan cuisine. Antulio opened his first bakery in 1976, and it stands as the oldest Guatemalan Bakery in Los Angeles. He prides himself in building an intergenerational community of people who have enjoyed Guatemalteca Bakery for over 45 years and looks to his children to continue his work of bringing the flavors of Guatemala to Angelenos.
