A Celebration of Black Communities and Culture in L.A.

The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County are proud to join the nationwide celebration of Black History Month in February. During this month, and throughout the year, we will share stories from past and present and recognize the richly diverse Black community who call Los Angeles home.

The Black community is a rich tapestry of cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, and experiences—and encompasses a wide range of traditions, languages, and customs. This diversity is further manifested in the varied contributions that members of the Black community make to the vibrant and dynamic fabric of Los Angeles. Below are just a few stories, people, places, organizations, and events that have shaped Los Angeles and beyond.

Join the conversation on social media by sharing your own stories about Black History and Heritage by using #NHMLA and #BlackHistoryMonth
