L.A. Student Nature Photo Contest

NHMLA is calling on Los Angeles County K - 12 students to snap and submit images of wildlife and nature both in L.A. and all over the world!  Don’t miss this chance to share your unique vision with the community.

Entry Period

July 11 – September 30, 2018

What to Enter

Please submit images of nature (i.e. plants, animals, fungus or slime molds). 

You may enter a maximum of three entries.

Images of animals in captivity (i.e. zoo, aquariums) and pets do not qualify. 

Please consider the well-being of wild creatures and ecosystems. Respect wildlife by not disturbing or moving the subjects you are photographing.

Grade Categories

Three winners will be selected from each grade category: First Place, Runner-up, and Honorable Mention.

  • Grades K - 2
  • Grades 3 - 5
  • Grades 6 - 8
  • Grades 9 -12

An online and onsite vote will be held at the close of the contest to draw a People's Choice winner.


Enter to win a NHMLA family membership, tickets to Haunted Museum, behind-the-scenes dinosaur tours and more!

The winning submissions will be put on display on a winner's wall adjacent to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition space.

* All entrants will also receive a free admission ticket to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition. One ticket per entrant will be sent electronically between Sept 30 - Oct 19.
